Screenings and close readings of films that explore issues of American madness, specifically the culture of violence, war, racism, and the American myths of masculinity, individualism, and consumerism, as seen in films by Ray, Aldrich, Ford, Fuller, and others. Emphasis will be placed on the formal elements specific to the films and their themes.
